FrostWire

FrostWire is a free cross-platform BitTorrent client with an elegant UI providing unlimited connections and downloads with added support for UI customization, online chat, simplified file search, firewall-to-firewall transfers and iTunes integration.

Development of FrostWire began in September 2004 after LimeWire considered making significant changes to its program due to mounting pressure from the RIAA. FrostWire is basically an identical application to LimeWire and began as a file sharing client on the Gnutella network later dropping support for Gnutella in version 5 to become a BitTorrent client instead. When LimeWire was shutdown in 2010 FrostWire took the limelight and its popularity grew with improved performance, stability and new added features. One great feature of FrostWire is the direct connect option which allows you to directly connect to a friends computer by simply typing their IP address in the box and FrostWire will browse through their file collection which they have made available for sharing. FrostWire also has an in-built media player allowing you to play all your audio and video files and later versions are compatible with Android devices.

FrostWire is cross-platform and compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 - Mac OS X 10.5 or later - Linux, Unix such as Solaris and Android +2.1. FrostWire v4.x or earlier are still used as they operate on the Gnutella network as well as working as a BitTorrent client please note older versions are not supported with updates. FrostWire 4.21 is considered the most stable release and less bloated.

Pros: Free from advertising and pop-ups, simple file search, direct connect with friends for file sharing.

Cons: Exhaustive on PC resources.
